  • Real time insights into customer preferences enable retailers to deliver tailored offerings during the buying process
  • Faster query performance leads to quicker business insights and competitive advantage

PALO ALTO, Calif. – June 8, 2016 – Actian Corporation, a leader in enterprise-grade data analytics infrastructure, announced today that it has achieved record performance and price/performance levels for the Transaction Processing Performance Council’s Industry Standard TPC-H benchmark. The test, performed across 3000GB data sets running Actian Vector software on an HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen9 Server with the new Intel® Xeon® processor E7-8890 v4, doubled the previous top result for non-clustered environments.

As companies continue to grapple with increasing volumes of data, analytics solutions with improved scalability and the ability to access real-time information and analysis become paramount to delivering business value.

“Actian delivers the fastest analytic data management solutions available today. This new benchmark record demonstrates how organizations can achieve competitive advantage by doing more with less,” said Mark Milani, senior vice president, Product Engineering at Actian. “The significant improvements in database server performance achieved by Actian, HPE and Intel redefines what can be done to deliver sophisticated analytics in low latency environments. For a financial services organization, performance at this level can enable intra-day risk analysis to make more timely adjustments and reduce costs, while retail organizations can perform just-in-time analysis to optimize inventory levels and margins to improve profitability.”

“The 4-socket HPE ProLiant DL580 Gen9 server with the latest Intel Xeon processor E7-8890 v4 is designed to tackle the toughest workloads and greatly enhance database performance making it an ideal platform for big data analytics,” said Peter Schrady, senior vice president & general manager, ProLiant Servers and Enterprise & SMB Segments at Hewlett Packard Enterprise. “These benchmark results with Actian demonstrate how enterprise customers can easily deploy more responsive and economical analytical solutions with record-breaking performance.”

“The Actian Vector benchmark results show what can be accomplished with the latest Intel Xeon processor E7-8890 v4, designed to scale database performance to new heights,” said Lisa Spelman, vice president, Data Center Group, and general manager, Intel Xeon Products and Data Center Marketing, Intel Corporation. “With this level of performance, businesses will get insights into customer behavior, market trends, operational efficiencies, and process exceptions more quickly to generate revenue opportunities and reduce unnecessary costs and risks.”

Actian Vector is a record-breaking database that unlocks the power of modern industry-standard CPUs with a revolutionary database engine that leverages vector-based processing and the on-chip cache memory hierarchy. The TPC Benchmark™H (TPC-H) is a performance test of the independent Transaction Processing Performance Council (TPC) for data warehouse solutions that is recognized worldwide. The benchmark simulates data warehouse analyses requiring considerable processing power and measures both the speed and capacity of database solutions. TPC-H categories are delineated by database size, and based on the latest round of independently audited results.

TPC and the benchmark name TPC-H are registered trademarks of the Transaction Processing Performance Council. The TPC believes that comparisons of TPC-H results measured against different database sizes are misleading and discourages such comparisons.
