How to Enable Self-Service Access to Secure and Governed KYC Data

self service access

Zusammenfassung

  • The webinar shows how self-service access to KYC and AML data can be enabled without giving up governance or security.
  • AI Analyst helps compliance teams investigate risk issues quickly by using the semantic layer to apply trusted business definitions and logic.
  • Its use of SemQL is positioned as the key control that keeps answers consistent and prevents hallucinated results.
  • The platform also emphasizes security through read-only access, encryption, no-copy processing, minimal retrieval, and no model training on customer data.
  • The broader message is that governed AI can reduce manual compliance work while keeping sensitive customer investigations trustworthy and controlled.

How can you enable self-service access to secure and well-governed Know Your Customer data? We took a deep dive in Actian’s latest webinar.

Die Herausforderung

To achieve regulatory compliance, you need absolute trust, verifiability, and replicability in the data you’re working with. Without some way to guarantee that incorporating AI will not create more problems than it solves, compliance teams in highly-regulated industries are stuck doing intensive manual work to monitor and investigate data around sensitive topics.

Anti-Money Laundering/Know Your Customer investigation is one of those sensitive topics, and in our recent webinar, we showed how Actian AI Analyst can help.

Real Investigation, Quickly

We took on the perspective of the Head of Compliance at a fictional bank, who has recently learned that several low-risk customers have exceeded a Suspicious Activity Report threshold.

Identifying why our risk rating isn’t matching up with the customer’s behavior can take hours or days done manually, but there’s no time for that. Luckily, our Head of Compliance has AI Analyst.

We started by asking for a list of low-risk customers who are exceeding the Suspicious Activity Reporting threshold—and we didn’t have to define what low-risk or SAR threshold meant or how to calculate them, because AI Analyst pulled all the relevant context from the semantic layer.

As we dug deeper, AI Analyst did much more than just gather data: it presented key metrics and risk factors, recommended compliance actions, identified why the issue wasn’t detected sooner, and more.

Governance With SemQL: The Anti-Hallucination Ingredient

AI Analyst is trustworthy because it always operates through your semantic layer—the combined context created by your models, metrics, glossary terms, and agent instructions—using SemQL.

SemQL is an abstraction layer we developed, which interprets your questions through the lens of your context layer into verified SQL.

AI Analyst never has direct access to your raw data, so it never has an opportunity to go off-script. The same question about the same data always gets the same results.

Deploy Fast

The example explored in this webinar had a fully-configured context layer: a defined model, metrics, business glossary, and agent instructions that conformed to the (fictional) bank’s real processes.

Traditionally, creating this context layer is one of the biggest hindrances to useful AI. With AI Analyst, you can have useful context up and running in hours or days.

Avoid months of manual configuration with AI Analyst’s Data Steward Agent, which frees your data stewards from repetitive maintenance tasks so they can focus on high-level governance work.

Make Security Teams Happy

Verifying AML and KYC compliance involves a lot of very sensitive data. AI Analyst helps keep your security team happy with platform-level protections, including ISO 21001:2002 certification in progress and:

  • Read-only access: AI Analyst never writes to or deletes your data sources.
  • Encryption: Communications between AI Analyst and your data sources use TLS in transit and AES at rest.
  • No-copy processing: Your data stays in your database.
  • Only-as-needed retrieval: AI Analyst only pulls the specific row(s) required to answer your query.
  • No training: Your data and questions aren’t used to train any AI model.
