Elastic Scaling in Actian Avalanche

Av Hero Bg 2

Moving applications to the cloud, users can benefit from various opportunities the cloud environment offers.

One of these opportunities is the availability of a seemingly infinite amount of resources, enabling users to match their requirements by scaling their application according to their load. Nevertheless, load may change over time and does not always follow a predictable behavior.

Actian will therefore offer a new elastic scaling feature, allowing users to quickly respond to requirement changes by scaling the system in a fast way without a shutdown. This solution brief provides a peek under the hood of the new elastic scaling feature, describing the basic concepts behind it from an engineering point of view.
