Steve Shine, CEO and President
Steve comes to Actian from Sybase where he was senior vice president and general manager for EMEA, overseeing all operational, sales, financial and human resources in the region for the past three years. While at Sybase, he achieved more than 200 million in revenue and managed 500 employees, charting over 50 percent growth in the Business Intelligence market for Sybase. Prior to Sybase, Steve was at Canadian-based Geac Computer Corporation for ten successful years, helping to successfully turn around two major global divisions for the ERP firm.

Mark Milani, SVP – Product Engineering
Mark Milani is SVP, Product Engineering at Actian. He is responsible for all engineering efforts across Actian, which includes development of both Actian’s software and cloud product solutions.
Mark joins Actian with over 20 years of engineering and leadership experience, having most recently served as SVP, Service Engineering at Oracle, where he led the technology direction and delivery for Oracle’s Cloud Services. In this role, Mark was responsible for developing standard service solutions for Oracle software over cloud architectures and management infrastructure. As a part of this, he also provided engineering solutions to Oracle’s Global Customer Support and Advanced Customer Services.
Prior to Service Engineering, Mark led Oracle’s Platform Technologies Engineering and the Worldwide Product Translation Group, where he was responsible for delivering Oracle’s database, middleware, and application product lines across Oracle’s supported platforms. Before Oracle, Mark held a variety of leadership positions developing cross platform and database solutions at Cross Access, Aion Corporation, and IBM.
Ketan Karia, CMO
Ketan Karia is CMO at Actian. He is responsible for all aspects of marketing and services, working closely with the sales and marketing teams worldwide. He is also responsible for the marketing of global partnerships.
Ketan comes to Actian from Sybase where he was head of International Field Marketing. With nearly thirty years in high technology companies, Ketan has hands-on experience in creating and implementing strategic marketing programs for both start-ups and established companies. Prior to Sybase, Ketan has worked for Cognos, Ardent (Ascential) Software, and ICL. As marketing director of Ardent software, he successfully led marketing during a critical time of restructuring after the take-over of rival VMARK.
Ketan has also held active non-executive and advisory roles for venture funds in the UK and has achieved significant results in short periods of time. Ketan graduated from University College, London with an honors degree in Computer Science and qualified from the Marketing School at ICL run by Prof Meyer Feldberg from MIT.
Fred Gallagher, GM, Vectorwise
Fred Gallagher is GM, Vectorwise and is responsible for managing the business activities for this breakthrough product. He joined Actian in 2006 as vice president of business development.
Prior to joining Actian, Fred worked for Qlusters, where he was responsible for worldwide sales, marketing, and business development. At Qluster, he successfully launched the industry's first open source systems management project. Prior to that, he worked at VMWare, where he was responsible for worldwide software alliances, and where he established 15 successful strategic alliances during a high-growth period of two years. Previously, he was at Seagate Technology, where he was vice president of worldwide channels and business development for Seagate's XIOtech subsidiary. Fred holds Bachelor of Arts and an MBA from Stanford University.
Paul McCullugh, General Manager, Versant
Paul McCullugh is responsible for Versant’s worldwide Sales and Marketing efforts and is ultimately responsible for revenue and customer relationships.
Mr. McCullugh served as Versant’s Vice President of Sales of North America & Asia Pacific during 1999 and 2000. During his 20 year career, Mr. McCullugh has built a solid track record of success and leadership managing both direct and in-direct customer relationships in commercial and open source software markets, including cloud business models. He rejoins Versant after a very successful six years at Oracle.
At Oracle, Mr. McCullugh held various sales positions in the Technology division, most recently as Sr. Director of Cloud Services. Prior to Oracle, Mr. McCullugh was Sr. Director of Sales for Sleepycat Software, an open source database company. Prior to Sleepycat, Mr. McCullugh held Executive Sales positions with several VC backed start-ups.
Mr. McCullugh holds a BA in Business Administration from Western Washington University.
