Steve Shine, CEO and President
Steve comes to Actian from Sybase where he was senior vice president and general manager for EMEA, overseeing all operational, sales, financial and human resources in the region for the past three years. While at Sybase, he achieved more than 200 million in revenue and managed 500 employees, charting over 50 percent growth in the Business Intelligence market for Sybase. Prior to Sybase, Steve was at Canadian-based Geac Computer Corporation for ten successful years, helping to successfully turn around two major global divisions for the ERP firm.

Greg Wood, Executive Vice President & CFO
Greg has more than 25 years financial leadership experience. Prior to Actian, Greg was CFO at Silicon Graphics Inc, where he guided the public company through an important period that included an acquisition by Rackable Systems. Prior to SGI, Greg was CEO of Pro Tools Solutions, a provider of innovative internet marketing solutions for corporations and non-profit organizations. He previously held CFO positions at Liberate Technologies, Intertrust Technologies, and other public and privately-held technology companies.
A certified public accountant, Greg holds a B.B.A. in accounting from the University of San Diego and a J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law.
Ketan Karia, CMO
Ketan Karia is CMO at Actian. He is responsible for all aspects of marketing and services, working closely with the sales and marketing teams worldwide. He is also responsible for the marketing of global partnerships.
Ketan comes to Actian from Sybase where he was head of International Field Marketing. With nearly thirty years in high technology companies, Ketan has hands-on experience in creating and implementing strategic marketing programs for both start-ups and established companies. Prior to Sybase, Ketan has worked for Cognos, Ardent (Ascential) Software, and ICL. As marketing director of Ardent software, he successfully led marketing during a critical time of restructuring after the take-over of rival VMARK.
Ketan has also held active non-executive and advisory roles for venture funds in the UK and has achieved significant results in short periods of time. Ketan graduated from University College, London with an honors degree in Computer Science and qualified from the Marketing School at ICL run by Prof Meyer Feldberg from MIT.
Fred Gallagher, GM, Vectorwise
Fred Gallagher is GM, Vectorwise and is responsible for managing the business activities for this breakthrough product. He joined Actian in 2006 as vice president of business development.
Prior to joining Actian, Fred worked for Qlusters, where he was responsible for worldwide sales, marketing, and business development. At Qluster, he successfully launched the industry's first open source systems management project. Prior to that, he worked at VMWare, where he was responsible for worldwide software alliances, and where he established 15 successful strategic alliances during a high-growth period of two years. Previously, he was at Seagate Technology, where he was vice president of worldwide channels and business development for Seagate's XIOtech subsidiary. Fred holds Bachelor of Arts and an MBA from Stanford University.
Emma McGrattan, SVP of Engineering
Emma McGrattan is senior vice president of engineering at Actian. She is responsible for the development and integration of the Ingres Database and associated products and technologies. A leading authority in DBMS technologies, Emma has been instrumental in the ongoing success of the Actian product line. Emma joined Actian from CA where she held a similar position and was responsible for the Actian family of relational database management products. She started her career with Actian in 1992, and has held a variety of senior development and management positions.
Not only a talented engineer and manager, Emma is also a great communicator as transpires from her blog and many speaking appearances. Balancing intelligence with humor, she is known to have been referred to as a "firecracker" at more than one instance.
Born in Ireland, Emma earned a Bachelor of Electronic Engineering from Dublin City University. Recognized for having open source development at heart, she is also a member of the board of directors for the Eclipse Foundation.
