CEO and President
Steve joined Actian in 2007 as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales, spearheading the company’s emergence into new markets and honing its global sales processes. Since assuming the role of CEO and President in 2011, Steve has led Actian through sustained organic and acquisition growth to position the company as a leading innovator in big data management and analytics and cloud integration. Prior to Actian, Steve was with Sybase as senior vice president and general manager for EMEA, overseeing all operational, sales, financial and human resources in the region. While at Sybase, he achieved more than $200 million in revenue and managed 500 employees, charting over 50 percent growth in the Business Intelligence market for Sybase. Prior to Sybase, Steve was at Canadian-based Geac Computer Corporation for ten years, helping to successfully turn around two major global divisions for the ERP firm. Steve holds a B.Sc. in Physics from Manchester University and lives in London with his partner and two children.
Chief Financial Officer
As Actian CFO, Steve leads Actian’s financial and administrative organizations including the finance, IT, HR and legal teams to drive the company to a position of global leadership in big data and analytics. Steve brings more than 25 years of experience in operational and financial management with extensive experience in enterprise data solutions. His accomplishments include managing two successful IPOs, multiple mergers and acquisitions, a variety of equity and debt funding activities as well as helping to formulate and implement complex business strategies.
Prior to joining Actian in June 2013, Steve was CFO and COO of U.S. Liquid Robotics Inc. He also served as President and CEO of Chordiant Software (and subsequently as Chairman of its board of directors), CFO at MarkLogic, CFO at Verity Inc., and various financial management positions at Apple Computer, The Santa Cruz Operation and Altos Computers.
In 2008, he was recognized with the Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” award for Software in Northern California. Steve holds a B.B.A. from Cleveland State University.
Chief Technology Officer
Actian CTO Michael Hoskins directs Actian’s technology innovation strategies and evangelizes game-changing trends in big data, analytics, Hadoop and cloud to give insight into Accelerating Big Data 2.0™. Mike, a Distinguished and Centennial Alumnus of Ohio’s Bowling Green State University, is a respected technology thought leader who has been featured in TechCrunch, Forbes.com, Datanami, The Register and Scobleizer. Mike has been a featured speaker at events worldwide, including Strata NY + Hadoop World, keynoting at DeployCon, the “Open Standards and Cloud Computing” panel at the Annual Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, the “Scaling the Database in the Cloud” panel at Structure, and the “Many Faces of Map Reduce – Hadoop and Beyond” panel at Structure Big Data. Mike received the AITP Austin chapter’s Information Technologist of the Year Award for his leadership in developing Actian DataFlow, a highly parallelized framework to leverage multicore. SVP – Product Engineering
Mark Milani is SVP, Product Engineering at Actian. He leads the Actian Analytics Platform, Action Apps and Operational Database engineering teams across Actian. Mark joined Actian in 2012 with over 20 years of engineering and leadership experience, having most recently served as SVP of Service Engineering at Oracle, where he led the technology direction and delivery for Oracle’s Cloud Services. In this role, Mark was responsible for developing standard service solutions for Oracle software over cloud architectures and management infrastructure. He also provided engineering solutions to Oracle’s Global Customer Support and Advanced Customer Services.
Prior to heading Service Engineering, Mark led Oracle’s Platform Technologies Engineering and the Worldwide Product Translation Group, where he was responsible for delivering Oracle’s database, middleware, and application product lines across Oracle’s supported platforms. Before Oracle, Mark held a variety of leadership positions developing cross-platform and database solutions at Cross Access, Aion Corporation, and IBM.
CMO and SVP, Business Development
Ashish Gupta joined Actian in 2013, where he is responsible for marketing and business development. Ashish brings more than 21 years of experience in enterprise software companies where he focused on creating go-to-market approaches that scale rapidly and building product portfolio that became category leaders in the industry. Ashish was formerly at Vidyo, where the company grew to be the leading software based video conferencing platform and was named to the coveted Wall Street Journal’s “Next Big Thing” list for 3 years continuously and was selected as a “Tech Innovator” by the World Economic Forum. Previously, Ashish led the Business Development and Strategy, Marketing and Corporate Sales teams for Microsoft Office Division’s Unified Communications Group responsible for introducing the industry leading Microsoft Lync product. Prior to Microsoft, Ashish was VP of Product and Solutions at Alcatel/Genesys Telecommunications and VP of Marketing and Business Development at Telera Inc. (acquired by Alcatel), and management consultant for Braxton/Deloitte Consulting. He also held marketing leadership positions at HP and Covad. He holds an M.B.A. from UCLA and a B.A. in Economics and Computer Science from Grinnell College.
General Manager, Actian Cloud and Healthcare
Lance Speck is General Manager of the Actian Cloud and Healthcare teams. His primary responsibilities include leadership of sales, marketing and product development for SaaS and healthcare customers and partners. With his strategic leadership position, Lance is focused on delivering healthcare solutions to help payers and providers address an estimated $450 billion annual opportunity derived from data analytics, ranging from fraud analytics to patient readmission reduction to staff optimization to accountable care reporting and clinical auto-coding. His team is also responsible for delivering tightly coupled OEM relationships with leading SaaS providers to reduce hybrid integration friction and leverage the Actian Analytics Platform to reduce customer churn, increase average sales price and drive competitive differentiation. For more than 20 years, Lance has served in a variety of management, sales and product roles in the software industry including a decade focused on SaaS, cloud and healthcare.

Vice President, Customer For Life
Paul is responsible for Actian’s worldwide Customer For Life organisation and has more than 20 years’ experience in both IT services and sales. Paul joined Actian in 2008 leading part of the UK services organisation before taking on responsibility for the EMEA Ingres sales organisation in 2011. Prior to joining Actian, Paul spent 8 years at CA Technologies in a variety of consulting and project management roles within the Information Management division (having joined CA in 2000 with Dave Postle through the acquisition of Apertus Systems). Paul began his career as a programmer at Coats Viyella but soon moved to software consultancy undertaking a variety of technical and management roles for various systems development companies.

Global Head of Services and Solutions
David is responsible for Actian’s services and solutions business globally. Bringing over 20 years of experience building innovative solutions for customers’ complex business problems, David joined Actian in 2007 when they acquired the successful systems development and integration company he co-founded, Luminary Solutions. Prior to joining Actian, David spent four years at CA Technologies in various Europe-wide consulting and pre-sales management roles in the Information Management division. He began his career at Cap Gemini and then spent eight years building another enterprise-focused systems development and integration company, Apertus Systems, that was acquired by CA in 2000.
David holds a B.Sc. Computation degree from Manchester University.
