CEO and President
Steve joined Actian in 2007 as Senior Vice President of Worldwide Sales, spearheading the company’s emergence into new markets and honing its global sales processes. Since assuming the role of CEO and President in 2011, Steve has led Actian through sustained organic and acquisition growth to position the company as a leading innovator in big data management and analytics and cloud integration. Prior to Actian, Steve was with Sybase as senior vice president and general manager for EMEA, overseeing all operational, sales, financial and human resources in the region. While at Sybase, he achieved more than $200 million in revenue and managed 500 employees, charting over 50 percent growth in the Business Intelligence market for Sybase. Prior to Sybase, Steve was at Canadian-based Geac Computer Corporation for ten years, helping to successfully turn around two major global divisions for the ERP firm. Steve holds a B.Sc. in Physics from Manchester University and lives in London with his partner and two children.
Chief Financial Officer
As Actian CFO, Steve leads Actian’s financial and administrative organizations including the finance, IT, HR and legal teams to drive the company to a position of global leadership in big data and analytics. Steve brings more than 25 years of experience in operational and financial management with extensive experience in enterprise data solutions. His accomplishments include managing two successful IPOs, multiple mergers and acquisitions, a variety of equity and debt funding activities as well as helping to formulate and implement complex business strategies.
Prior to joining Actian in June 2013, Steve was CFO and COO of U.S. Liquid Robotics Inc. He also served as President and CEO of Chordiant Software (and subsequently as Chairman of its board of directors), CFO at MarkLogic, CFO at Verity Inc., and various financial management positions at Apple Computer, The Santa Cruz Operation and Altos Computers.
In 2008, he was recognized with the Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” award for Software in Northern California. Steve holds a B.B.A. from Cleveland State University.
GM, Data Management & Integration
Brad, a 25-year industry veteran with deep enterprise software expertise, leads the Actian Data Management & Integration business unit. Brad and the DMI team are committed to driving revenue growth, expanding Actian’s existing customer base, and helping customers future-proof their IT infrastructures.
Brad joins Actian from BDNA. While at BDNA Brad’s team nearly tripled sales in 3 years. Prior to his role at BDNA, Brad served 13 years at Informatica, most recently as SVP of sales.
Brad holds a BBA in Marketing from the University of Georgia.
GM, Actian Analytics Platform
A veteran enterprise sales executive, Kevin leads the Actian Analytics Platform business unit. As the head of the AAP team Kevin is focused on sales, pre sales, and services in the Big Data space, helping global enterprise customers achieve transformative business impact and increase competitive advantage through high-performance analytics.
Prior to Actian, Kevin spent 15 years at Oracle serving in a variety of leadership roles. Recognized as a leader in growing overall revenue across various product categories, Kevin managed over $200 million in annual sales and was known for building high-performing, customer-centric sales teams that set record numbers around growth.
Kevin graduated with a B.S in Biology from the University of North Carolina.
Chief Technology Officer
Actian CTO Michael Hoskins directs Actian’s technology innovation strategies and evangelizes game-changing trends in big data, analytics, Hadoop and cloud to give insight into Accelerating Big Data 2.0™. Mike, a Distinguished and Centennial Alumnus of Ohio’s Bowling Green State University, is a respected technology thought leader who has been featured in TechCrunch, Forbes.com, Datanami, The Register and Scobleizer. Mike has been a featured speaker at events worldwide, including Strata NY + Hadoop World, keynoting at DeployCon, the “Open Standards and Cloud Computing” panel at the Annual Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining, the “Scaling the Database in the Cloud” panel at Structure, and the “Many Faces of Map Reduce – Hadoop and Beyond” panel at Structure Big Data. Mike received the AITP Austin chapter’s Information Technologist of the Year Award for his leadership in developing Actian DataFlow, a highly parallelized framework to leverage multicore. Chief Marketing Officer
Tony Kavanagh, CMO, is a senior technology marketing executive with over 20 years experience in building world-class marketing teams, processes and systems, developing differentiated corporate positioning, aligning sales and marketing around common goals. Tony leads the global marketing strategy and oversees the company’s comprehensive marketing functions.
He joins Actian from DataStax where he was the CMO. Prior to DataStax he was CMO of Salesforce.com at Desk.com, and VP of Marketing for Service Cloud. Additionally he was the VP of Marketing for InQuira Inc. and spent four years leading marketing for XOJET. He also spent eleven years at Oracle, holding a series of marketing leadership roles both in the US and EMEA, including the VP of Marketing for the UK Region.
Tony was born in Dublin, Ireland and holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Masters in Business Degrees from University College, Dublin. He is also a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland.
SVP – Product Engineering
Mark Milani is SVP, Product Engineering at Actian. He leads the Actian Analytics Platform, Action Apps and Operational Database engineering teams across Actian. Mark joined Actian in 2012 with over 20 years of engineering and leadership experience, having most recently served as SVP of Service Engineering at Oracle, where he led the technology direction and delivery for Oracle’s Cloud Services. In this role, Mark was responsible for developing standard service solutions for Oracle software over cloud architectures and management infrastructure. He also provided engineering solutions to Oracle’s Global Customer Support and Advanced Customer Services.
Prior to heading Service Engineering, Mark led Oracle’s Platform Technologies Engineering and the Worldwide Product Translation Group, where he was responsible for delivering Oracle’s database, middleware, and application product lines across Oracle’s supported platforms. Before Oracle, Mark held a variety of leadership positions developing cross-platform and database solutions at Cross Access, Aion Corporation, and IBM.
SVP, DMI Field Operations
Ketan has been with Actian since 2007 and currently heads up commercial operations for the DMI division, responsible for over $100m of revenue, channel development and marketing. Prior to this Ketan was the CMO for Actian responsible for all marketing activity including strategic planning and field implementation required to establish Actian as an innovator in Data Management, Analytics and the Cloud.
Ketan joined Actian from Sybase where as head of International Field Marketing he was instrumental in establishing Sybase a global leader in the Business Intelligence market.
Other industry roles include MC Venture Partners responsible for fast starting and growing two portfolio companies; helped transform Ardent(Ascential Software) into a leader in ETL; turn-around Cognos into a force in Business Intelligence and ICL to establish the Decision Support business.
Ketan graduated from University College, London with an honors degree in Computer Science and qualified from the Business & Management School at ICL run by the MIT.
Global Head of Services and Solutions
David is responsible for Actian’s services and solutions business globally. Bringing over 20 years of experience building innovative solutions for customers’ complex business problems, David joined Actian in 2007 when they acquired the successful systems development and integration company he co-founded, Luminary Solutions. Prior to joining Actian, David spent four years at CA Technologies in various Europe-wide consulting and pre-sales management roles in the Information Management division. He began his career at Cap Gemini and then spent eight years building another enterprise-focused systems development and integration company, Apertus Systems, that was acquired by CA in 2000.
David holds a B.Sc. Computation degree from Manchester University.
