Yes. When you sign up for Community Edition, you get both a 30-day full-featured trial and the free-forever Community Edition. Your 30-day trial begins immediately when you sign up and gives you access to the full VectorAI DB experience. Community Edition remains available as a limited, free-forever edition for experimentation with up to 5,000 vectors.
The main difference is vector capacity. The 30-day free trial lets you embed up to 1 million vector embeddings, so you can evaluate VectorAI DB with larger datasets and more realistic AI workloads. The Community Edition is free forever and limited to 5,000 vector embeddings, making it best for experimentation, learning, and smaller prototype projects.
At the end of the 30-day free trial, your existing embeddings become read-only, and you can no longer create new embeddings in the trial environment. You can continue experimenting with the free-forever Community Edition, which supports up to 5,000 vector embeddings. To keep creating embeddings at higher capacity, including up to 1 million vector embeddings, you can upgrade to a paid plan.
No. The 5,000-vector limit is a fixed capacity limit, not a monthly usage allowance. It does not reset or refresh each month. Once you reach the 5,000-vector limit, your embeddings become read-only, and you cannot create new embeddings until you delete existing embeddings to make room for new ones.
Community Edition is designed for developer experimentation, learning, and small prototype projects. It is not licensed for production use or commercial redistribution. If you want to use VectorAI DB in a production application, commercial deployment, or a product you redistribute, you’ll need to upgrade to a paid plan or talk to Actian about the right licensing option.
