David Murphy is one of the Silicon Valley’s most highly regarded business executives. Over the past 25 years, Murphy has held top leadership roles driving market adoption and disruptive growth. Most recently, Murphy served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Blue Coat Systems, a leader in enterprise security, which was recently acquired by Symantec. Prior to Blue Coat, Murphy served as Senior Vice President for HP’s Laserjet and Enterprise Solutions business unit within the company’s Imaging and Printing Group (IPG), responsible for driving IPG’s business imaging, printing and software growth across all customer segments. Murphy joined HP in 2006 through HP’s acquisition of Mercury Interactive, where he was Chief Financial Officer. At Mercury, Murphy led the company’s finance and business operations, and market expansion and acquisition efforts into Mercury’s Business Technology Optimization (BTO) portfolio.
Prior to joining Mercury, Murphy was CEO of Asera, where he led the company’s efforts as a pioneer in delivering real-time collaborative business process applications for the extended enterprise with a web services delivery approach. Prior to Asera, Murphy was president and general manager of IBM Tivoli Systems, where he was responsible for day-to-day operations and drove aggressive expansion into new markets, helping make IBM a major competitor in the software space.
Murphy’s background also includes working as the head of the private equity investments group at Perot Systems and as a partner at McKinsey & Company. Murphy holds an MBA from Stanford and technical degrees in mathematics and electrical engineering from the Universities of Louisville and Florida Atlantic.
