Actian Avalanche on Google Cloud: Engineered for the Data-Driven Enterprise

POZNAN, POL - JAN 30, 2020: Laptop Computer Displaying Logo Of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Offered By Google

Today, Actian is excited to announce a partnership with Google Cloud that makes the Actian Avalanche real-time connected data platform available for preview on Google Cloud. Initially, the Avalanche preview will be available in the us-west1 and us-east1 regions. If you are interested in trying out Avalanche on Google Cloud, you can sign up for preview here.

Throughout the roll-out period, organizations will be able to take advantage of the fact that Google Cloud has the best backhaul and high-bandwidth networking infrastructure of any cloud provider, ensuring lightning-fast data access even across regions. Leveraging this superior networking and storage capabilities in Google Cloud, Avalanche can deliver 20% superior query performance and unbeatable cost for performance compared to other cloud providers.

We have been collaborating closely with Google Cloud’s architects and storage teams over the past few months. From the standpoints of ease of use, integrated connectivity, real-time decision making, this collaboration ensures that Actian Avalanche will deliver the best cloud data warehouse experience available—with the lowest TCO among all cloud data warehouses. Organizations in the midst of digital transformation can gain access to the real-time insights needed to make the real-time decisions that competitive advantage demands.

Avalanche is deployed in the form of containers and micro services on the latest compute nodes of Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE), Google Cloud Dataproc, and Google Cloud Storage (GCS).  Avalanche supports agile data processing by enabling the rapid ingestion of data into the data warehouse—or it can be used to query data stored in Google data lakes via external tables.

Hybrid Deployment Opportunities

Because Actian Avalanche can be used in a hybrid configuration, organizations can configure Avalanche to operate in multiple cloud providers as well as on premises. This enables organizations to finally realize the true potential of hybrid by bringing the compute power of Avalanche to the place where their data resides. Whether you’re running Avalanche in the cloud or on-premises, you can leverage the same database engine, the same physical data model, the same ETL/ELT tools, and the same BI tools of your choosing.

Actively Edging Forward

Hybrid deployments of Actian Avalanche are not just limited to on-prem and Cloud. You can also deploy Avalanche to Edge devices to enable a scalable and secure analytics platform. Actian is actively working with the Google Cloud team to deliver an Edge-to-Cloud experience via the Google Anthos framework. We are also working on full integration with core Google Cloud services such as Google Cloud Analytics Platform, Google Cloud Data Fusion, and Google Cloud Dataflow to facilitate access to the real-time insights that evolving organizations need. In addition, we will expand Avalanche support in the US Midwest, German, and Irish cloud regions in the coming months.

Conversation with Google on the Future of Cloud Data Warehousing

I will be having an interactive conversation with Google Cloud’s Head of Partnerships for Infrastructure and Analytics, Manvinder Singh, on October 21 to discuss our joint vision for transforming cloud-based business analytics. You will get to see Avalanche on Google Cloud in action as well. Make sure to register for the webinar.
