Vectorwise Smashes TPC-H Record at Scale Factor 100 Delivering 340% of Previous Best Record


Analytic Database Enables Fast Reporting and Analytics for the Masses with Breakthrough Performance and Price/Performance on Standard Hardware

Las Vegas, NV, TDWI BI SUMMIT – February 15, 2011 - Ingres Corporation, pioneers of the breakthrough analytic database, Vectorwise, today announced it has set a new record for the Transaction Processing Performance Council’s TPC-H benchmark at scale factor 100 running on a single HP ProLiant DL380, delivering 340% of the previous best record while improving price/performance by 25%. The result of this breakthrough opens a new range of business intelligence and interactive reporting possibilities previously not possible without expensive software and hardware.

Based on the newly published TPC-H results, the Vectorwise database delivered 251,561 QphH@100GB (Query–per-hour performance metric) for 100 GB of data on a single HP ProLiant DL380 G7 system (availability date March 31, 2011 at a total system cost of $94,667 USD) compared to the previous best of 73,975 QphH@100GB on an HP ProLiant DL380 G7 system (availability date July 2, 2010 at a total system cost of $42,680 USD). Vectorwise also posted a price performance figure of USD $0.38 QphH@100GB compared with the previous best of USD $0.51 QphH@100GB on an HP ProLiant DL385 G7 system (availability date July 14, 2010 at a total system cost of $36,271 USD).

About the TPC-H Benchmark

The TPC Benchmark™H (TPC-H) is a decision support benchmark. It consists of a suite of business oriented ad-hoc queries and concurrent data modifications. The queries and the data populating the database have been chosen to have broad industry-wide relevance. This benchmark illustrates decision support systems that examine large volumes of data, execute queries with a high degree of complexity, and give answers to critical business questions.

The performance metric reported by TPC-H is called the TPC-H Composite Query-per-Hour Performance Metric (QphH@Size), and reflects multiple aspects of the capability of the system to process queries. These aspects include the selected database size against which the queries are executed, the query processing power when queries are submitted by a single stream, and the query throughput when queries are submitted by multiple concurrent users.
